This specimen was lot 24071 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $4,993.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria Proof 50 Cents 1901, Proof 62 NGC, meticulously sharp design features with reflective surfaces and just a light scattering of tiny contact marks. Very rare in Proof with a listed mintage of 30. A key rarity in the British Commonwealth series." This four year type (1894, 1896, 1897, 1901) is not rare in circulated condition but the proofs are rare.
Recorded mintage: 10,000 plus 30 proofs.
Specification: 11.62 g, 0.925 fine silver.
