This specimen was part of lot 26543 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Lot of Eight Modern silver Coins, 3, 4, 5, Reais, and 10, 20, 200, 500, 2000 Cruzeiros issues. All coins choice UNC or Proof." This commemorative, honoring a UN conference on Environment and Development, is one of two silver coins issued while the "cruzeiro" was in use (1990-93). The currency would be reformed twice before the reform of 1994 finally stuck.

Recorded mintage: 30,000 proofs.

Specification: 27 g, 0.925 fine silver, .802 troy oz ASW, 40 mm diameter.
