The first specimen was part of lot 26543 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), which sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Lot of Eight Modern silver Coins, 3, 4, 5, Reais, and 10, 20, 200, 500, 2000 Cruzeiros issues. All coins choice UNC or Proof." The second specimen was part of lot 33837 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), which sold for $780. The catalog description[2] noted, "Meeting of Two Worlds 500th Anniversary silver 14-Piece Proof Set 1992, A highly collectible set that was issued for the 500th anniversary of the founding of the "New World". Each issue is crown-sized, with the issuing countries being: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela. Sold with the original box of issue and display case." This commemorative, honoring the 500th anniversary of Colombus's discovery of America, is one of two silver coins issued while the "cruzeiro" was in use (1990-93). The currency would be reformed twice before the reform of 1994 finally stuck.

Recorded mintage: 40,000 proofs.

Specification: 27 g, 0.925 fine silver, .802 troy oz ASW, 40 mm diameter.
