This type was struck in 1986-88. It represents the cruzado of 1986-89 (= 1,000 second cruzeiros = 1,000,000 first cruzeiros). 735 metric tons of stainless steel were consumed producing these coins and two years later they were useless. Brazil endured currency reforms in 1942, 1967, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1993 and 1994. Wikipedia comments, "Combined with all previous currency changes in the country's history, this reform [of 1994] made the new real equal to 2.75 × 1018 (2.75 quintillion) of Brazil's original réis."
