This specimen was lot 75217 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $512.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 40 Reis, 1889. Rio de Janeiro Mint. NGC MS-64 Brown. KM-491." This is not KM 491 as catalogued by the auctioneers but a rare pattern, KM-Pn172. The actual KM 491, which is common, looks quite different.
