This silver 320 réis was minted at the Bahia mint in Brazil during 1695-98, among its first issues. This coin would have traded in the 18th century as one-third of a Spanish dollar. The specimen was lot 20372 in Heritage sale 3009 (Chicago, April 2010), where it sold for $8,050. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro II of Portugal 320 Reis 1698, F-VF, deep gray patina, extremely rare date struck at Bahia without mintmark."

Specification: 8.96 g, 0.917 fine silver, .264 troy oz ASW.
