This specimen was lot 1108 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $575. The catalog description[1] noted, "1699 2,000 reis. Rio mint. EF-45 (NGC). Types as above. Medium orange gold, clip at base of reverse but edge device unaffected. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." This type was struck for Brazil at Rio 1699-1700 and was accompanied by gold 1000 and 4000 réis (KM 96 and 98).
