Brazil 1695 320 reis
This silver 320 réis was minted at the Bahia mint in Brazil as a one year type in 1695, among its first issues. This coin would have traded in the 18th century as one-third of a Spanish dollar. The SCWC records a rare variety without punctuation in the legend on the reverse.
The second specimen was lot 20370 in Heritage sale 3009 (Chicago, April 2010), where it sold for $977.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro II 320 Reis 1695 'Small Crown' - 'Inverted Zones' variety, KM82, Russo 121A, choice VF. 'Inverted Zones' refer to the inverted lines of the equator; tropics and circles of the globe in the reverse. Scarce."
