Brandenburg 1630 thaler Dav-6141
This specimen was lot 311 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €3,600 (about US$4,852 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Georg Wilhelm, 1619-1640. Reichstaler 1630, Königsberg. Spruchtaler. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Brandenburg, George William, 1619-40, thaler of 1630, Königsberg mint. Rare in this quality, very attractive example with hansome patina, about extremely fine.)"
This type of 1627-35 is rare and expensive even by the standard of this state, whose thalers prior to Frederick the Great are generally rare. A half thaler (KM 124.1) also exists.
Recorded mintage: 20,000.
Specification: silver.
