Brandenburg-Ansbach 1754-PPW thaler Dav-1985A
This specimen was lot 267 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €420 (about US$566 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG IN FRANKEN. Karl Wilhelm Friedrich, 1729-1757. Konv.-Taler 1754, Schwabach. Mit Stempelschneidersignatur PPW (Peter Paul Werner) am Armabschnitt. Slg. Grüber (Auktion Künker 267) 4463. Sehr schön. (Germany, margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Charles William Frederick, 1729-57, convention thaler of 1754, Schwabach mint, with engraver's initials PPW below bust. Very fine.)"
The line lapsed in 1791 and the provinces fell to Prussia, who in turn yielded them to Bavaria in 1806 as part of Napoleon's mediatization. This one year type is one of the cheaper Ansbach thalers.
