Brandenburg-Ansbach 1754 ducat Fr-355
This specimen was lot 1812 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,897 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG IN FRANKEN, BRANDENBURG-ANSBACH, Karl Wilhelm Friedrich, 1729-1757. Dukat 1754, Saalfeld, auf die Vermählung seines Sohnes Christian Friedrich Karl Alexander mit Friederike Karoline, Tochter des Herzogs Franz Josias von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld, am 22. November. GOLD. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Charles William Frederick, 1729-57, ducat of 1754, Saalfeld mint, on the wedding of the margave's son to the daughter of the duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld on November 22. Choice example, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This wedding double ducat was accompanied by a double ducat (Fr-354). The line lapsed in 1791 when the margrave sold the provinces to Prussia, who in turn yielded them to Bavaria in 1806 as part of Napoleon's mediatization.
