Künker sale 335, lot 3707

This specimen was lot 3707 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €750 (about US$982 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG IN FRANKEN, BRANDENBURG-ANSBACH, MARKGRAFSCHAFT, Joachim Ernst, 1603-1625. 2 Pfennig 1623, Fürth. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Joachim Ernest, 1603-25, two pfennig of 1623, Furth mint. Rare in this condition, cabinet piece, about uncirculated.)"

The margrave issued a variety of minor coinage, including a pfenning (KM 18), two pfenning in copper (KM 19) or billon (KM 34, shown here), three pfenning (KM 20, 21), kreuzer (4 pfenning, KM 22, 23, 35, 43), two kreuzer (KM A23, 36), three kreuzer (groschen, KM 27, 44), four kreuzer (batzen, KM 24), six kreuzer (KM 37, 45, 46). He also participated in the kipperzeit, with a 12 kreuzer (KM 11A), 24 kreuzer (KM 13, 14, 15, 16, 25.1, 25.2) and 48 kreuzer (KM 26). Thalers exist but are rare.
