This specimen was lot 929 in Jean Elsen sale 109 (Brussels, June 2011) where it sold for €4,200 (about US$7,101 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,

Reverse: crowned arms supprted by two lions, Order of the Golden Fleece below. From the Symkens collection and SBS sale 42, Basel, 1997, lot 240. Very rare, nearly extremely fine.)"
Ducatons were issued in the Spanish Netherlands and associated states (including the bishopric of Liège and Franche Comte) during the seventeenth century, where they competed with French écus, German talers and Dutch daalders and patagons. The type shown here was struck at the Antwerp mint 1622-36 and at the Brussels mint 1624-36. A very similar coin was struck for Flanders (Dav-4446) and Tournai (Dav-4450). The series is plagued by bad planchets and poor strikes, reducing their appeal to collectors. This specimen is rare because it is a piefort.
Reported Mintage: unknown.
Specification: 64.96 g, 0.944 fine silver, this specimen 64,91 g.
