Jean Elsen sale 145, lot 1434

This specimen was lot 1434 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €300 (about US$428 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRABANT, Duché, Philippe de Saint-Pol, duc (1427-1430), AR double gros cromsteert, 1429-1431, Louvain. Imitation du cromsteert de Philippe le Bon. D/ Lion rampant à g. Sur sa poitrine, l'écu de Brabant-Bourgogne. R/ + MONE-TA: NOV-A: LOVA-NIENS' Croix pattée longue cantonnée de B-R-A-B'. Rare. Très Beau. Philippe de Saint-Pol succéda à Jean IV mais il mourut subitement après trois ans de règne, avant même de s'être marié. La succession du Brabant et du Limbourg échut à son cousin Philippe le Bon qui ordonna de poursuivre la frappe au nom de son prédécesseur. Cette émission posthume se poursuivit jusqu'en mars 1431. The succession of Brabant and Limburg fell to his cousin Philip the Good who ordered that coinage continue in the name of his predecessor. This posthumous issue continued until March 1431.)"
