Jean Elsen sale 136, lot 625

This specimen was lot 625 in Jean Elsen sale 136 (Brussels, March 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Philips de Goede (1419-1467), AR dubbele groot kromstaart, 1428-1432, Gent. A met dwarsstreep. Vz/ Leeuw n. l. met het wapenschild van de hertog. Kz/ Lang kruis met in de hoeken F-L-A-D. goede Zeer Fraai. (county of Flanders, Philip the Good, 1419-67, silver double groat of 1428-32, Ghent mint. Obverse: lion to left bearing the arms of the duke; reverse: long cross. Good very fine.)"

The death of the duke's son, Charles the Rash, in 1477, allowed the county to pass to the Spanish Hapsburgs.
