This specimen was lot 29362 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1845 PTS-R AU55 NGC, Potosi mint. Well preserved with limited high-point wear defining the grade, partial underlying luster and generally few noticeable contact marks, as expected for the designation. A better date for this scarce type, seldom seen in higher preservation, and very desirable in this quality. One of only two specimens currently certified by NGC for the date." This type was struck 1841-47 and is not rare but usually found impaired.
