This specimen was lot 30427 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $7,500. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Scudos 1846 PTS-R MS62 NGC, Potosi mint. A highly attractive, near-choice example of the type, displaying immense luster and a sharp strike. Seldom encountered in such an exceptional grade, and currently the finest graded by NGC for the date, with just two others at this designation. Worthy of a great deal of interest and consideration." This type was struck 1841-47 and is not rare but usually found impaired.
