CNG Lissner sale, lot 1209

This specimen was lot 1209 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $4,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Republic. 1825-present. AV Escudo. Potosí mint. Rafael Mariano Bustillo, assayer. Dated 1846/5 PTS R. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Choice uncirculated with faint orange peel toning. Only specimen ever graded. Extremely rare. Overdate not mentioned on holder. Purchased from California Coin & Stamp, October 1973." This type was struck 1841-42 and 1846. The denomination as a whole is scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.

Specification: 3.4 g, 0.875 fine gold, this specimen Ø18 mm, 3.36 g, 6h axis.
