This specimen was lot 1343 in Stephen Album internet sale 28 (Santa Rosa, CA, July 2024), where it sold for $108. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA: Carlos IV, 1788-1808, AR real, 1800-PTS, NGC graded AU58." This is an example of a type struck 1791-1809 at Potosi, Bolivia (then called Upper Peru). It was replaced in 1813 by the bust of Ferdinand VII. Harris[1] notes that Potosi one reales of Charles IV are tied with Mexico City as the commonest mint yet many dates are scarce. Assayer PP is recorded for 1795-1803.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.
