Bolivia 1749-P q 2 reales

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 73532

This specimen was lot 73532 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $145. The catalog description^[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Cob 2 Reales, 1749-P q. Potosi Mint. Ferdinand VI. PCGS VF-20. From the Richard August Collection." This date is known with assayer "q" (operated 1744-60). The Potosí mint was the most prolific issuer of silver during the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, nearly all of it cobs such as this. This type was struck 1747-60. The Potosí mint was the last to abandon the manufacture of cobs, in 1773.
