This specimen was lot 71213 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1737-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Esteban Gutierrez Escalante (E). Philip V. PCGS EF-40. This cob sports an attractive pewter-gray toning that gives the piece an antique charm. Much detail remains on the surfaces to appreciate, including a clear date, denomination, mintmark, and assayer. A pleasingly original example. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This type was struck for Philip V through his entire reign. Assayer "E" stamped coins 1733-37 along with assayer "M" for 1737-40. The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728.
