Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collectors Choice sale, lot 73351

This specimen was lot 73351 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Cob 2 Reales, 1735-P E. Potosi Mint. Philip V. PCGS VG-8. Heavily circulated, but showing two dates. From the Sydney F. Martin Collection." The fineness of the cobs was lowered from 0.931 to 0.917 in 1728. This two reales was struck in this alloy 1729-47 with assayer "E" noted for 1733-37.The Potosí mint was the last to abandon the manufacture of cobs, in 1773.
