This specimen was lot 76589 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Cob 2 Reales, 1731-P M. Potosi Mint. Philip V. PCGS VF-35." This type was struck for Philip V through his entire reign. Assayer M stamped coins 1728-32. Assayer M reappears 1738-40 but was a different person. In 1725, king Philip V abdicated in favor of his favorite son Louis, who died ten months later, forcing the old king to resume the throne. The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728.
