This specimen was lot 23610 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $14,950. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Luis I Royal cob 8 Reales 1726-Y, type with LVIS PRIMERO, VF Details NGC (holed). Nicely toned with a very light obverse double-strike. Very rare presentation coinage for this ephemeral reign."

Royals are known of this type from the Potosí mint but all are rare. The regular cob issues are not nearly as nice. In 1725, king Philip V abdicated in favor of his favorite son Louis, who died ten months later, forcing the old king to resume the throne. Issues of Luis are consequently rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but few.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.931 fine silver, .810 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-9295, WR-10; KM-R35 (royal), Lazaro 307, Calico 21.
