Bolivia 1723-P Y 4 reales
This specimen was lot 71192 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Cob 4 Reales, 1723-P. Potosi Mint; Assayer Diego de Ybarbouru (Y). Philip V. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, VF Details. This roughly-handled 4 Reales piece has corrosion around the edges and tooling marks on the reverse. The obverse central devices are well-preserved, however, retaining a bold denomination and date, as well as a partial assayer and mintmark. Though the reverse is in a poorer state, it shows a faint but identifiable date. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This type was struck for Philip V through his entire reign. Assayer Y stamped coins 1701-28. The silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine in 1728.
