Sedwick sale 27, lot 606

This specimen was lot 606 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 27 (Winter Park, FL, May 2020), where it sold for $178.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Potosí, Bolivia, cob 8 reales, 1706Y. Typically chunky with much peripheral flatness but with three dates, including bold 706 between pillars, full 1706 in legend and bold 06 date below very doubled cross, Fine+ with traces of porosity, toning around details." This type was struck 1701-17 for Philip V. The cobs were debased from 0.931 fine silver to 0.917 fine in 1728 with no change in design.
