This specimen was lot 72113 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Cob Real, 1670-P E. Potosi Mint. Charles II. PCGS VF-35. A dark toned and problem-free Cob, with sharp detail on the central devices. Mintmark, assayer, and two digit date are clear on the obverse. Part of king's name visible in the periphery on the reverse. From the S.P. Rutherford Collection." In 1652, the four and eight reales were redesigned to distinguish the reformed (full silver) product from the old, debased cobs. Assayer "E" (Antonio de Ergueta) was brought in to clean house and served 1650-79, well into the reign of Charles II, as here.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.931 fine silver, this specimen 3.62 g.
