Bolivia 1631-P T 8 reales
The first specimen was lot 576 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $570. The catalog description[1] noted, "Potosí, Bolivia, cob 8 reales, (1)631T, cross-fleury ornament after date. Full and well-detailed shield and cross-lions-castles, bold final digit and partial 63 of date followed by complete cross-fleury, full dot-P-dot-T-dot and clear cross-fleury above denomination, low-contrast XF with minor flan-crack." The second specimen was lot 72043 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[2] noted, "BOLIVIA. Cob 8 Reales, 1631-P T. Potosi Mint. Philip IV. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, VF Details. A well-struck and centered obverse, with visible mintmark, assayer, denomination, and partial king's name. On the reverse, the final two digits of the date are clear. From the S.P. Rutherford Collection." The Potosí mint was the second mint in the western hemisphere to date its products. Dating began in 1617.
