Bohemia 1717 1/2 thaler KM-668
This specimen was lot 2625 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 375 CHF (about US$448 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Osterreich, Karl VI. 1711-1740 1/2 Taler 1717. Kuttenberg. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. NGC AU55. (Holy Roman Empire, Charles VI, 1711-40, half thaler of 1717, Kuttenberg mint. Very fine-extremely fine.)"
This five year type was struck at Kuttenberg. This date is scarce; a draped bust variety (KM-688) is much more available for 1717. A similar thaler exists (Dav-1071) but is much costlier. The oval shape derives from the use of roller dies, which were gradually superseded by the screw press in the eighteenth century. It is one of the last products of this mint before it was closed in 1727 when the ore gave out.
