Sincona sale 47, lot 2621

This specimen was lot 2621 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$360 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND, Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Halbtaler 1679. Fast vorzüglich. Leicht justiert. (city and canton of Bern, half thaler of 1679. About extremely fine, Minor adjustment marks.)"

In the predecimal system of Switzerland, four kreuzer = one batzen and forty batzen = one thaler, making this type of 1679-80 equal to twenty batzen.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.36-13.48 g, silver, 34 mm diameter, this specimen 13.75 g.
