Bern 1669 10 kreuzer KM-26
This specimen was lot 3131 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,454 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Bern, Stadt und Kanton, 10 Kreuzer 1669, Bern. Av. Bär in ovaler Wappenkartusche. Rv. Doppeladler mit Nimben, Wertzahl I0 in einem Oval auf Adlerbrust. Sehr selten, Schön-sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, ten kreuzer of 1669, Bern mint. Obverse: bear in oval cartouche; reverse: nimbate double headed eagle, the value on its breast. Very rare, Fine-very fine.)"
This denomination was struck in 1669 in two types: KM 26 (shown here, struck 1656, 1658 and 1669), with the denomination on the eagle's breast, and KM 35, with the denomination over the eagle's head. They are priced the same in the SCWC.
