Sincona sale 64, lot 3146

This specimen was lot 3146 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 44,000 CHF (about US$55,132 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton, 6 Dukaten o. J. (um 1775), Bern. Gekröntes, seitlich eingebuchtetes Stadtwappen auf Kartusche. Rv. Kartusche mit vierzeiliger Inschrift. Äusserst selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. (city and canton of Bern, undated six ducats, Bern mint. Obverse: crowned arms in a cartouche; reverse: cartouche with four line inscription. Extremely rare, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

The catalog does not record the reason for this issue, but it was accompanied by 4 ducats (KM 128), 7 ducats (KM 130), 8 ducats (KM 131, 132) and 10 ducats (KM 133, 134), all rare.
