Bern (1775) 4 ducats Fr-145
This specimen was lot 5062 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 25,000 CHF (about US$29,963 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton, 4 Dukaten o. J. (um 1775), Bern. Gekröntes, geschwungenes Berner Wappen auf einer reich verzierten Kartusche. Rv. Inschrift in vier Zeilen auf einer Kartusche. Sehr selten. NGC MS61. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (canton of Bern, undated four ducats, circa 1775, Bern mint. Obverse: crowned city arms in a cartouche; reverse: four line inscription in a cartouche. Very rare, Magnificent condition.)"
The catalog does not record the reason for this issue, but it was accompanied by six ducats (KM 128), 7 ducats (KM 130), 8 ducats (KM 131, 132), ten ducats (KM 133, KM 134) and twelve ducats (KM 135), all rare.
