This specimen was lot 1834 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $734.37. The catalog description[1] noted, "Belize. 100 Dollars, 1991 Choice Brilliant Proof. For the 10th Anniversary of Independence. With case and certificate. Choice Brilliant Proof." The weight matches that of a British double sovereign. Belize was formerly known as British Honduras. Great Britain expressed willingness to grant independence prior to 1981 but the English-speaking locals were nervous about occasional threats from Guatemala to invade and annex the territory.
