Stack's Bowers May 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 34012
SB524-34012r.jpg

This specimen was lot 34012 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "BELIZE. 250 Dollars, 1992. Llantrisant Mint. Elizabeth II. PCGS PROOF-68 Deep Cameo. Immensely alluring, this nearly-flawless example delivers good eye appeal, with rich brilliance and full sharp details throughout. Entirely appealing, and deserved of a strong bid from the many collectors of modern world gold." The jabiru (Jabiru mycteria) is a large stork found in the Americas from Mexico to Argentina, except west of the Andes. It doesn't seem to have any relevance to the anniversary being commemorated, that of the central bank. Confusingly, another 250 dollars released in 1992, Fr-21, weighed a full ounce.

Recorded mintage: Estimated 250.

Specification: 15.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.4709 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-19; KM-105.
