Belgium 1912 2 frank
This specimen was lot 42 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $193.60. The catalog description[1] noted, "BELGIUM, Kingdom. Albert I. 1909-1934. AR 2 Francs. Bruxelles (Brussels) mint. Dated 1912. Flemish legend. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66. A gem BU with a hint of violet toning. None graded higher." This coin, one of a type struck 1910-12 during the reign of Albert I of Belgium (1909-34), was struck with Walloons (dialect of French) and Flemish (dialect of Dutch) legends. The Flemish legend type is shown here; it is somewhat scarce. Belgium was thoroughly devastated during World War One and its silver coinage was terminated.
