CNG Lissner sale, lot 40

This specimen was lot 40 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $145.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "BELGIUM, Kingdom. Albert I. 1909-1934. AR 50 Centimes. Bruxelles (Brussels) mint. Dated 1912. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66." This coin, one of a type struck 1910-14 during the reign of Albert I of Belgium (1909-34), was struck with Walloons (dialect of French) and Flemish (dialect of Dutch) legends. The Walloons legend type is shown here; it is not rare. Belgium was thoroughly devastated during World War One and its silver coinage was terminated.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000 plus 1,000,000 with Dutch legends.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.835 fine silver, this specimen is Ø17 mm, 2.53 g, 6h axis.

Catalog reference: KM 70; Y 33.
