Jean Elsen sale 135, lot 1139

This specimen was lot 1139 in Jean Elsen sale 135 (Brussels, December 2017), where it sold for €240 (about US$333 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), Cu 1 centime, 1844. Rare. Superbe. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, copper one centime of 1844. Rare, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1835-63, some over Dutch half cents.

Recorded mintage: 1,822,000, a fairly scarce date.

Specification: 1.9 g, copper.
