Jean Elsen sale 135, lot 1136

This specimen was lot 1136 in Jean Elsen sale 135 (Brussels, December 2017), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted,

"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), AR 1/2 franc, 1838. Nettoyé. presque Très Beau. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I, 1831-65, silver half franc of 1838. Cleaned, about very fine.)"

This type was struck 1833-35, 1838-44 at the Brussels mint. The specification matches the French half franc of Louis Philippe.

Recorded mintage: 550,000, a better date.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, .072 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
