This specimen was lot 823 in Jean Elsen sale 124 (Brussels, March 2015), where it sold for €155 (about US$193 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIQUE, Royaume, Léopold Ier (1831-1865), AR 1/2 franc, 1840, Rare. Nettoyée. presque Très Beau. (kingdom of Belgium, Leopold I (1831-64), silver half franc of 1840. Rare, cleaned, almost very fine.)
This type was struck 1833-44 at the Brussels mint. The specification matches the French half franc of Louis Philippe.
Recorded mintage: 347,000 for 1840-41.
Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, .072 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
