Künker sale 336, lot 6763

This specimen was lot 6763 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €420 (about US$550 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GERMAN COINS SINCE 1871, REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, BAYERN. Ludwig III. 1913-1918. 2 Mark 1914. Polierte Platte. (Germany, kingdom of Bavaria, Louis III, 1913-18, two mark of 1914, proof.)"

This two mark and the accompanying three mark, five mark and gold twenty mark were issued for the new king Ludwig III. They are among the last issues for the kingdom of Bavaria. The only coin issued once World War One broke out was an extremely rare wedding commemorative five mark in 1918.

Recorded mintage: 573,533 plus proofs.

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 28 mm diameter.
