The first specimen was lot 4301 in Sincona sale 4 (Zürich, October 2011) where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$665 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Bayern, 1806 Königreich Ludwig I. 1825-1848. Doppelter Vereinstaler 1839. Reitersäule Maximilians I. Vorzüglich. (kingdom of Bavaria, Louis I, 1825-48, double vereinsthaler of 1839, extremely fine)."

The second specimen was lot 29480 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[2] noted, "Bavaria. Ludwig I 2 Taler 1839 MS63 PCGS. A frosty-white offering struck to commemorate Maximilian I as Elector of Bavaria. Tremendously appealing and quite elusive in this select grade designation." This double thaler commemorated the dedication of an equestrian statue of elector Maximilian I. Its face value of two thalers was equal to 3½ gulden. Bavaria joined the German Empire in 1871 and her coinage was reformed to use marks and pfennigs.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
