Sincona sale 64, lot 3102

This specimen was lot 3102 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 405 CHF (about US$508 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Basel | Stadt und Kanton, Batzen 1765, Basel. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (city and canton of Basel, batzen of 1765, Basel mint. Rare in this condition, Uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"

Thirty batzen made a convention thaler of 120 kreuzer. This type was struck 1763-65 by the city and is fairly common. No more of this denomination were struck until the nineteenth century.
