Sincona sale 98, lot 4069

This specimen was lot 4069 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 190 CHF (about US$276 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bistum Basel, Johann Konrad II. von Reinach-Hirzbach, 1705-1737. Kreuzer 1727, Pruntrut. Selten. Sehr schön. Schrötlingsfehler. (Switzerland, bishopric of Basel, John Conrad II of Reinach-Hirzbach, 1705-37, kreuzer of 1727, Pruntrut mint. Rare, Very Fine, Flan flaw.)"

The bishop of Basel was driven from his seat when Basel turned Protestant during the Reformation. He resided in Pruntrut and issued coins from there. This type was struck 1725-27, with the 1726 being the most available.
