Sincona sale 98, lot 4070

This specimen was lot 4070 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$399 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bistum Basel, Johann Konrad II. von Reinach-Hirzbach, 1705-1737. Batzen 1733, Pruntrut. Schräg gerippter Rand. Selten. Fast sehr schön. (Switzerland, bishopric of Basel, John Conrad II of Reinach-Hirzbach, 1705-37, batzen of 1733, Pruntrut mint, obliquely reeded edge. Rare, About Very Fine.)"

The bishop of Basel was driven from his seat when Basel turned Protestant during the Reformation. He resided in Pruntrut and issued coins from there. This type was struck 1718 and 1733 along with a half batzen (two kreuzer).
