Sincona sale 91, lot 3100

This specimen was lot 3100 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$430 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Bistum Basel, Johann Konrad II. von Reinach-Hirzbach, 1705-1737. 12 Kreuzer 1726, Pruntrut. Gutes sehr schön. Kleines Zainende. Unterhalb des bischöflichen Portraits befindet sich ein kleines H. Es ist vermutlich dem Bruder von Johann Carl Hedlinger, Josef Anton Hedlinger, zuzuschreiben, welcher ab 1722 als Münzmeister in Pruntrut amtete. (Switzerland, bishopric of Basel, John Conrad II of Reinach-Hirzbach, 1705-1737, twelver kreuzer of 1726, Pruntrut mint, Good very fine, Minor edge clip. There is an "H" under the bishop's bust, perhaps the initial of the brother of John Charles Hedlinger, Joseph Anton Hedlinger, who took over as mintmaster of the Pruntrut mint in 1722.)"

The bishop of Basel was driven from his seat when Basel turned Protestant during the Reformation. He resided in Pruntrut and issued coins from there. This type was struck 1725, 1726 and 1733, of which only the 1726 is reasonably available.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 2.67 g.
