This specimen was lot 4156 in Goldberg sale 41 (Beverly Hills, May 2007), where it sold for $6,325. The catalog description[1] noted, "Basel. Ducat, 1653. City of Basel. Obv: Variety with decorative cartouche. Leg: DVCATVS / NOVVS/ REIPVB: / BASILEE/ NSIS. Reverse: Spread eagle facing right holding shield and arms. Leg: * DOMINE. CONSERVA. NOS. IN. PACE. 1653. Rare. NGC graded MS-64." This one year type is another rare and expensive issue from this Swiss canton.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold; this specimen 3.41 grams, 22.15 mm diameter.
