This specimen was lot 3082 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 2,400 CHF (about US$3,007 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Basel | Stadt und Kanton, Assis 1663, Basel. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-FDC. (city and canton of Basel, assis of 1663, Basel mint. Very rare in this condition, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"
This type was struck 1663, 1695-98. We don't know why this specimen would realize fifteen times the catalog value. We believe forty assis made a thaler.
