Western India in 1942, including Baroda

This specimen was lot 30024 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Baroda. Sayaji Rao III Rupee VS1948 (1891) MS64 NGC. Entirely original and perhaps even conservatively graded, with no marks to speak of and yellow-tan toned centers that become darker along portions of the outer legends. Immediately apparent underlying mint luster further confirms the elite third-party designation. Altogether, a rupee deserving of a strong bid." The SCWC notes this as struck 1891-92 but gives it a fairly low catalog value.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 11.4 g, 0.940 fine silver, 30 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-Y36.
