Baroda AH 1287 nazarana rupee
This specimen was lot 56376 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Baroda. Rupee, AH 1287 (1870). Malhar Rao (under Victoria as Empress). NGC EF-40." The second specimen was lot 2467 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[2] noted, "BARODA: Khande Rao, 1856-1870, AR rupee, Baroda, AH1287, bilingual type, ruler's name with long 'a', kâhandirâu, bold strike, XF."A standard, dumpy rupee (KM Y12, struck AH 1274-1287) also exists and is considerably more common. Malhar Rao (r. 1870-75) was the eleventh maharaja of Baroda.
